Sonoma State freshman Lauren Garcia has been named the CCAA Women’s Golfer of the Week, after helping her team to a tournament win this week.

Garcia shot a nine-over par 153 in the 36-hole Sonoma State Fall Invitational to finish in a three-way tie for third place at the Valley of the Moon Club in Santa Rosa.

The Seawolves placed three players in the top 10 to edge Cal State San Marcos for the tournament title by one stroke, 620-621.

Garcia’s teammate Lexi Nielsen, a recent CCAA Golfer of the Week honoree, also finished with a 153. Garcia, who started at No. 5 for SSU, had the lower round two score of 76 and moved up 11 places on the leaderboard after Monday’s 77.

Garcia’s 153 score tied her collegiate best so far in three events. The Gilbert, Ariz., native also shot a 153 in her debut Sept. 20-21 at the Peacock Gap Golf Club in San Rafael.

Cal State San Marcos (621) was second, Cal State L.A. ninth (645) and Chico State finished 12th (673).

The Sonoma State women’s golf team concludes its fall schedule Oct. 26-27 at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate at the Waikoloa Kings’ Golf Course in Hilo, Hawaii.
