For the second time this fall, Sonoma State’s Lexi Nielsen has been named the CCAA Women’s Golfer of the Week.
Nielsen finished third at the Dennis Rose Invitational in Waimea, Hawaii, to lead Sonoma State to a third place finish in the fall season’s final event, hosted by Hawaii Hilo.
In the three-day, 54-hold tournament at the Hapuna Golf Course, Nielsen shot three-over 219 as the top player from the CCAA. The Manhattan Beach senior scored a 77 to start the week on Monday before a 70 on Tuesday. The round of 70 is the tournament’s second lowest score (66, Faith Kilgore of Colorado Christian in round two). Nielsen closed out the outing with a 72 in Wednesday’s final round.
Biola’s Brady Turnquist was the individual medalist at 2-under 214. Grand Valley State was the team champion with a 889 total, followed by Biola (894) and Sonoma State (907).
Nielsen has led Sonoma State in three of the four tournaments this fall. She was the runner-up at the Birdie Fest in San Rafael, Sept. 20-21, which earned her a CCAA Golfer of the Week award.
The women’s golf season resumes in the spring, on Feb. 14, at the Visit Stockton Cactus Thaw in Stockton.
