Cal State San Bernardino’s Brian Nielsen has been named the CCAA Men’s Golfer of the Week after a stellar outing in paradise.

Nielsen was the runner-up at the Dennis Rose Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawaii, after turning in a  4-under 206 in the three-day, 54-hold event at the Waikoloa Kings Course.

The junior from Riverside led the Coyotes to a third place finish out of 12 teams in the tournament hosted by Hawaii Hilo.

Nielsen scored a 66 to open the tournament on Monday, a score that was the low round score until a shocking 61 by individual medalist Cam Sandland of Colorado Christian. Nielsen shot a 68 on Tuesday before finishing with a 72 in the final round Wednesday.

Nielsen, a transfer from Riverside City College, was the only player to score two rounds of 68 or lower. This was Nielsen’s best finish as a Coyote.

The men’s golf season resumes in the spring, on Feb. 14, at the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational in Vista.
