Ramirez nets hat-trick in CPP rout to win Player of the Week nod

Jerry Ramirez of Cal Poly Pomona made his opportunity count with three goals to earn the CCAA Men’s Soccer Player of the Week award, for the week of Oct. 4-10.

Ramirez was part of the Broncos’ offensive explosion against Cal State East Bay on Sunday when CPP beat the Pioneers, 7-0. Ramirez scored a hat-trick with three consecutive goals in the match.

After sitting out the match against Stanislaus State on Friday, the junior forward from Corona played 38 minutes on Sunday and delivered.

With the score already 1-0 early in the match, Ramirez scored the next two Cal Poly Pomona goals before the half. Those scores came during a 2-minute, 38-second stretch to give the Broncos a 3-0 lead. Ramirez opened the second half scoring in the 51st minute en route to the CPP rout.

Ramirez, a transfer from California Baptist, scored the 14th hat-trick in program history and the first since 2019.

Cal Poly Pomona’s next match is Thursday night at home against Cal State San Bernardino.
