CSUSB leader Cardoza wins her sixth Volleyball Player of the Week award

For the second consecutive week a CSUSB Coyote is named the Volleyball Player of the Week as Alexis Cardoza picks up the honor for the week of Oct. 4-10.

Cardoza was again the team leader as the Yotes swept through two more CCAA matches with wins over Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State. The 11th-ranked CSUSB improved to 13-3 overall and 8-0 CCAA.

The outside hitter averaged 3.67 kills and 4.25 points per set in CSUSB’s two 3-0 victories. Cardoza excelled from both sides of the ball as she smashed 22 kills (.290 hitting percentage) with two aces on offense. Then, on defense the senior from Chino Hills had 24 digs with three blocks.

Against Cal State Monterey Bay, Cardoza led the team with 13 digs plus two blocks. Her nine kills was second best for the night.

Versus San Francisco State, which carried a 12-2 record into the match, Cardoza led all players with 13 kills with two aces. She also had 11 digs and a block. Cardoza and the Yotes held SF State to a .067 hitting percentage. The Gators had entered the weekend seventh in Division II with a .282 percentage.

Cardoza, a two-time All-American and two-time CCAA Player of the Year, has now received the weekly honor six times in her career.

No. 11 Cal State San Bernardino and No. 21 Cal Poly Pomona will meet twice this week in the clash of the top two teams currently in the standings. CSUSB is at CPP Wednesday before hosting the Broncos Saturday.
