Vavra of CSUSM picks up second men's Runner of the Week award

Cal State San Marcos’ Shea Vavra picked up his second award as the Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, for the week of Oct. 4-10, after placing third in a prestigious meet in Illinois.

Vavra impressed against a strong field at the Lewis Conference Crossover in Romeoville, Ill. on Saturday, with an 8K race time of 24:25.80.

The senior from Escondido was behind CarLee Stimpfel of Saginaw Valley and Ryder Searle or Colorado Christian.

The competition included 233 runners from 24 teams across all regions of Division II. The meet included seven nationally-ranked teams including winner No. 6 Colorado Christian, host and runner-up No. 19 Lewis and No. 1 ranked Grand Valley State.

Cal State San Marcos, which finished 12th on Saturday, is ranked 24th in the most recent USTFCCCA coaches top 25.

Vavra was the CCAA Runner of the Week for the week of Sept. 20-26 after the Cougar Challenge in San Marcos.

The Cougars are back in action on Oct. 16 when they compete in the UC Riverside Highlander Invitational.
