Yesterday, the NCAA Division II Presidents Council announced the cancellation of 2020 fall championship events after it was determined to be untenable from an administrative and financial perspective, due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this news, the conference is still looking ahead to the potential of all sports having the opportunity to compete in 2021.

"The CCAA will continue to plan on a return to competition for all of our sports in the spring when it is deemed safe and appropriate," CCAA Commissioner Mitch Cox added. "While our fall sports will not have an opportunity to compete for a national championship this year, we are hopeful they will still be able to have a quality student-athlete experience culminating with a CCAA championship."

Further, as the fall semester begins across the 12 member-institutions of the CCAA, the conference has announced the following policy regarding fall activities for its student-athletes:

Team activities, practice and training opportunities will be determined and defined by each member institution with the approval of the University president and the Cal State system, and shall adhere to local and state public health regulations. All applicable NCAA playing and practice season rules will be followed.

"It's essential for our coaches to be able to work with their student-athletes in a manner that helps protect the health and safety of their university communities," noted Cal State LA president William Covino, Chair of the CCAA Board of Presidents. "This policy will allow campus leaders the ability to do so in accordance with guidance and input from local public health officials."

Student-athletes should be in contact with their specific institution's athletics compliance staff for further guidance on permissible activities allowed by their department for the Fall of 2020. Further decisions regarding spring CCAA activities and return to play timelines are expected to be announced in October.
