After recording her eye-popping 12th career tournament victory, Cal State San Marcos junior Jaime Jacob has yet again been named CCAA Golfer of the Week for Feb. 26-March 3. This is her fourth weekly honor in 2019-20, and the 12th of her career.
Jacob carded a first-round 71 on Monday at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout at Corica Park in Alamada. She sat in second on the individual leaderboard, trailing Academy of Art’s Iveta Posledni by two strokes. On the second day of the event, Jacob fired a 69 with a birdie on the 18th to overtake Posledni by one stroke, finishing at 4-under 140. All told, she recorded nine birdies in 36 holes of play, and was the only golfer in the field of 96 women to play the par 4 holes under par (-3).
As a team, the Cougars defended their title, finishing with a score of 21-over 597, 12 strokes better than its nearest opponent Simon Fraser. With courses in the East Bay kind to the Cougars, Cal State San Marcos has now won two-straight Pioneer Shootouts, and Jacob took the individual title in 2018.
Next up, Cal State San Marcos plays hosts at the Fujikura Invitational, welcoming the field to Shadowridge GC in Vista on March 9-10.
