Updated CCAA Statement on COVID-19
March 18, 2020
After consultation with the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Presidents/Chancellor Board, effective immediately, the CCAA cancels the remainder of the spring 2020 athletic season, including all previously scheduled championships for the 2019-20 academic calendar. In addition, all countable related athletic activities (CARA) are prohibited until May 31, 2020.
Furthermore, the CCAA prohibits on or off-campus in-person recruiting through May 31, 2020. This does not prohibit written or virtual communication following NCAA recruitment guidelines with prospective student-athletes during this time period.
In the interest of student-athlete welfare, CCAA coaches are encouraged to reach out and communicate with current student-athletes during this time period to offer support as they go through these unprecedented times. Activation of NCAA D2 bylaw 17.02.17 (Voluntary Athletically Related Activities) is permitted, however, institutions should be mindful of the restrictions set forth in that bylaw.
NLIs issued and signed by prospective student-athletes before March 16, 2020 will still be managed through the normal validation processes of the CCAA.
