Winning his first individual title as a Pioneer, Cal State East Bay senior Joey Herrera has been named CCAA Golfer of the Week for March 4-10.
In his second season for Cal State East Bay, Herrera compiled a three-round total of 70-69-72–211 (-5) at the NDNU Invitational held at Poppy Ridge in Livermore to best his closest competitors on the course by five strokes. Finishing as the only man under par for the two-day event, the Fillmore native tallied 12 birdies to tie the tournament best, and 36 pars.
His second-round 69 included five under-par holes to close out Monday with a four-stroke lead on the field. Herrera’s 211 is his lowest 54-hole score and first tournament win since transferring from Ventura College in 2018.
Herrera helped Cal State East Bay to third in the team standings as Academy of Art and Dixie State leapt over the Pioneers in the final round.
The team plays hosts next week at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout at Corica Park in Alameda where golfers will take to the course March 16-17.
