Leading UC San Diego to the meet victory at the Rossi Relays, seniors Claudia Cox and Erikka Linn have earned the first CCAA Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors of the 2020 season.
Cox is no stranger to weekly accolades, earning her seventh career conference honor. The senior from Greenville, N.C., earned a provisional qualifying mark in the 400 meter hurdles, crossing the line in 60.94 seconds to take second in the event, trailing Azusa Pacific’s Jaylah Walker by just 2.3 tenths of a second. She was also part of the Triton 4x400 meter relay squad that earned a win with a time of 3:54.32.
Earning her first conference honor, senior Erikka Linn also notched a provisional qualifying mark, leaping 39’8.75” in the triple jump to take first in the event and record the fourth-best distance in Triton history. Linn’s day in the field also saw her leap 18’1.0” in the long jump for first, as well as racing to a second-place finish in the 4x100 meter relay to cap the impressive meet. After the first weekend of NCAA countable competition, Linn is the lone woman in the country to reach a provisional mark in the triple jump.
After a weekend off, UC San Diego hosts the San Diego Collegiate Challenge at Triton Track & Field Stadium on March 7.
