Fields, Bejaran Open 2020 Season with Weekly Honors

Cal Poly Pomona hurdler Ryan Fields and Stanislaus State thrower Eric Bejaran have been named CCAA Track & Field Athletes of the Week to open the 2020 season. This is the second career weekly award for both men.
Fields, a sophomore for the Broncos, set a personal best in the 110 meter hurdles at the Rossi Relays in his hometown of Los Angeles. Fields took second with a time of 14.71 seconds, only trailing Japanese athlete Hiroki Fudaba, and edging Australia’s Noah Rogers by one one-hundredth of a second. Fields was also a member of the 4x400 meter relay team that took second in the event and outpaced third-place UC San Diego by nearly five seconds. As a team, the Broncos finished on top of the standings, outpointing the Tritons for second by a score of 153 to 139.
Bejaran, an All-American thrower for the Warriors, posted a mark of 203’1” to claim a provisional in the hammer throw at the Fresno Pacific Sunbird Invite. Easily outcompeting the field of 25 men, Bejaran bested his nearest competitor, teammate Matthew Gallego, by nearly 24 feet. He also finished third in the shot put and sixth in the discus to open the season. Bejaran is one of two men nationally to post a provisional mark in the hammer in the first weekend of competition.
Cal Poly Pomona next competes at the Chico State Multi Classic this Thursday and Friday, while the Warriors are idle until hosting their own event, the Kim Duyst Invitational, March 6-7.
