Christian Oshita helped UC San Diego clinch the regular-season banner outright last Thursday, and went on to garner his second CCAA Player of the Week award of the year for Feb. 17-23.

The redshirt senior forward out of Torrance averaged 22.5 points and 6.5 rebounds as the Tritons posted road wins at Cal State East Bay and Cal State Monterey Bay. Thursday night’s 62-55 decision over the Pioneers assured them a second-consecutive CCAA title after sharing last year’s regular-season crown with Cal Poly Pomona.

Oshita provided a game-high 25 points in Hayward, just missing a double-double with nine boards to go along with one assist, one block and a steal in a season-high-tying 39 minutes. Five of his nine made shots were of the three-point variety, with his 20 field goal attempts and 14 three-point tries both career highs.

In Saturday afternoon’s 84-64 victory in Seaside, Oshita scored 20 more points with four triples, four rebounds, one assist and zero turnovers over 34 minutes.

Oshita connected on 50 percent (17-34) of his attempts from the floor, including nine three-pointers on 23 tries (.391). He was 2-for-5 at the line.

Oshita’s first CCAA weekly distinction came on Nov. 26. He now gives the Tritons a league-best five honors for 2019-20, with Tyrell Roberts also a two-time selection, and fellow fifth-year senior Chris Hansen the initial pick back on Nov. 12. Oshita, like Hansen, is now a four-time CCAA Player of the Week for his career, including Nov. 20, 2018, and Jan. 2, 2018. He is currently third in the league in scoring at 18.1 points per game, just behind Roberts the leader at 18.5.

At 26-1 overall and 20-1 in CCAA play, UC San Diego is a winner of a program-record 18 games in a row. The Tritons, a perfect 15-0 outside of La Jolla, wrap up the regular season at crosstown foe Cal State San Marcos this Saturday, Feb. 29, at 3 p.m. on the CCAA Network. They will then host the first round, semifinals and final of the 2019-20 CCAA Tournament, and likely the NCAA Division II West Regional, the following two weeks.
