After reaching a career milestone, Alexia Thrower has earned her impressive fourth weekly award of the year. The senior guard for Humboldt State is back-to-back CCAA Player of the Week.
Hailing from Las Vegas, Thrower is the Jacks’ ninth player in program history to become a member of the 1,000-point club, reaching the milestone in a thrilling one-point victory at Sonoma State Saturday. For the week, she averaged 27.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.0 assists on the successful weekend away from home.
Thursday against San Francisco State, Thrower contributed 19 points, four rebounds and three steals in 29 minutes on the court in the 36-point victory. Saturday, Thrower scored a career-high 36 points as Humboldt State’s last-second heroics gave the visitors a 74-73 win over the Seawolves. Entering the contest with 997 points, Thrower’s first attempt of the night hit the mark to put her at 999. It took until 3:32 remained in the first quarter to earn the 1,000-point bucket and formally etch her name in the annals of Humboldt State women’s basketball history.
Going on to finish with a career-high 36, Thrower has posted double-digit scoring efforts in every game she has played this season.
The pair of wins puts Humboldt State in a tightly-packed bunch of four CCAA squads with 11 conference victories thus far in the season, joined by Cal Poly Pomona, Sonoma State, and the Jacks’ next opponent Stanislaus State. The pack is among the teams jostling for postseason position with two weeks remaining in the regular season. Humboldt State is currently tied for seventh with the Warriors heading down the home stretch.
The Jacks looks to keep its four-game winning streak going as Humboldt State plays one game this week. The team will travel to Turlock to take on Stanislaus State Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in a pivotal matchup.
