After recording a win and a tie in three rounds of match play against Division I foes, Cal State San Marcos’ Jaime Jacob has been named CCAA Golfer of the Week for Feb. 5-11.
This is the 11th weekly honor since women’s golf became a CCAA-sponsored sport in 2017-18, and the fourth of the season for the back-to-back individual and team conference champion.
Jacob beat San Jose State’s Maddie White 4&3 in head-to-head action at the Lamkin Invitational, hosted by San Diego State. The senior from Encinitas opened on No. 10 at Rancho Santa Fe GC, and was down to White after the first hole of the round. She squared it with a par on No. 11 and back-to-back birdies on Nos. 14 and 15 gave Jacob a 2-up advantage. She went on to extend the lead to 4-up with three holes to play after carding her fifth birdie of the round on the par-4 sixth to halt the match and secure the lone point for the Cougars.
Jacob dropped her match against BYU’s Annick Haczkiewicz 3&2 in the afternoon, but Cal State San Marcos defeated the Cougars from Utah to move on to the fifth-place bracket. Taking on Colorado’s Isabelle Simpson, Jacob recorded a tie to halve the match and play to a 1-0-1 record during the week.
Again beginning on No. 10, Jacob went 2-up after two going birdie-par to start the round. She would have an advantage on the scorecard until the 14th hole of the day when Simpson’s birdie on No. 5 evened the match. The Colorado player would go on to build a lead late in the round, but after carding a double-bogey on No. 9, Jacob earned the all-square as Cougars' lone point-getter against the Buffaloes.
Next, Cal State San Marcos heads up to the Bay Area to compete in the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout, hosted by Cal State East Bay at Corica Park March 2-3.
