Ruiz' Individual Title for Cal State LA Takes CCAA Weekly Honors Sep 24, 2019 After racing to the head of the pack to claim her first individual title for Cal State LA, Rebecca Ruiz has been tapped as CCAA Runner of the Week for Sept. 16-22. Ruiz, a junior from Glendora, crossed the line in 17:46.58 at the Coyote Challenge, hosted by fellow CCAA competitor Cal State San Bernardino. She finished the 5,000-meter race nearly 12 seconds ahead of second-place Riley Harmon of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, topping the field of 146 women. The individual win was the first for a Golden Eagle since 2013 as Cal State LA hadn't had a winner in a race since Sabrina Lopez captured the title at the UC San Diego Opener on Sept. 6 of that year. The Golden Eagles finished fourth in the team standings, compiling 104 points and outpacing the other three CCAA schools in the 12-team field. Cal State LA returns to the course Saturday in the Master’s Invitational in Santa Clarita. Also nominated: Cessair McKinney, Humboldt State Angie Ronquillo, Cal State East Bay Brooke Roy, Cal State Monterey Bay
