Garrett Hogbin notched a pair of game-winning goals from his defensive position to keep Chico State perfect on the young season and earn his first career CCAA Player of the Week selection.

The redshirt junior center back from Mission Viejo and 2018 All-West Region honoree, headed in the opening goal in the 50th minute of Sunday’s 2-0 home decision over Academy of Art. He later assisted on the clincher in the 70th.

Hogbin had previously also notched the contest’s first goal in the 21st minute of Friday night’s 3-0 home victory over Fresno Pacific, touching in the loose ball from a Servando Higuera corner kick at the far post. He again set up Chico State’s second, just before the halftime interval, as the rebound from his headed effort was shot in.

In addition to that offensive production, Hogbin anchored his defense over the two shutouts, allowing just 13 shots, only four of which were on goal.

Hogbin is off to a historic start to his fourth year in the program, as his four goals have all gone down as game-winners for the 4-0 Wildcats. He leads the entire Division II nationally by himself in the category.

Having wrapped up its non-conference slate, Chico State begins the CCAA schedule with a primetime tilt at Cal State Dominguez Hills this Friday night. That’s ahead of a Sunday showdown at preseason favorite and fellow unbeaten Cal State LA.
