Jessica Rieble is the CCAA Player of the Week for Sept. 9-15, after leading UC San Diego to a perfect 4-0 record as one of six hosts of the 2019 West Region Volleyball Showcase.

The fourth-year Triton senior middle blocker out of Pleasanton is a first-time CCAA weekly honoree for her career, having averaged 3.7 points, 2.7 kills, 1.3 blocks and 1.1 digs while hitting at an efficient .440 clip. That percentage, as well as Rieble’s blocking average, were second-best among the six squads present at UC San Diego.

Rieble’s 16 points in a four-set victory against Concordia-Irvine on Friday night, and 10.5 points in a sweep over Saint Martin’s on Thursday afternoon, were match highs. Her nine total blocks in the match against the Eagles fell one shy of her career best.

In Saturday’s dramatic reverse sweep over Academy of Art to round out the stellar weekend, Rieble combined with fellow senior Sydney Tekstra on a huge combination block to break a 14-14 tie in the decisive fifth set. The Tritons stormed back from 14-10 down to take a 16-14 decision, and complete the rally.

For her efforts, Rieble was one of four student-athletes and two Tritons from the La Jolla pod to earn West Region Showcase All-Tournament Team selection. UC San Diego was the lone unblemished side in La Jolla, and in the 36-team event held at six locations, the Tritons were one of six teams to go 4-0, joining NCAA No. 1 Cal State San Bernardino and No. 2 Western Washington, and fellow CCAA squads Stanislaus State, San Francisco State and Cal State Dominguez Hills in the feat.

UC San Diego completed the non-conference portion of its schedule at 6-2, and opens the CCAA slate up in the Bay Area this weekend at Cal State East Bay and San Francisco State.
