UC San Diego goalkeeper Angelica Ramos is the 2019 season’s first CCAA Player of the Week for Sept. 2-8.

Ramos played all 180 minutes and posted a pair of shutouts as the third-ranked Tritons achieved a pair of 2-0 home victories to open their 20th and final campaign in the CCAA. She was credited with two saves on five shots faced on Thursday night against Concordia Irvine, and then made five more stops on seven attempts on Saturday evening against Biola.
Concordia and Biola appeared at second and fourth, respectively, in the Pacific West Conference’s preseason poll.

Ramos, a native of San Clemente, opted to return for a fourth and final season with the Tritons as a redshirt senior. The 2017 CCAA Newcomer of the Year picked up an All-CCAA honorable mention for the second time last November, and now has 24 individual clean sheets for her UC San Diego career.

“What Angelica has right now, and it’s just trickling into the defensive unit, is confidence in how she’s playing,” explained first-year head coach Kristin Jones after a pair of shutouts from her goalkeeper. “She’s making the right decisions on when to come and get balls, when to stay on her line. Her communication has been great. She’s always great at making a save when she needs to make it, and she stays connected to the game.”

The Tritons next face their first road test of 2019 as they head north to another PacWest contender in Azusa Pacific on Saturday night, Sept. 14, at 7:30 p.m.
