CALIFORNIA - A conference-record 900 individuals from the league’s 13 institutions have earned CCAA All-Academic distinction for the 2018-19 scholastic year, headlined by a trio of institutions eclipsing 90 student-athletes.

Introduced in the 2005-06 season, the annual All-Academic Award recognizes undergraduate student-athletes who competed in a Conference-sponsored sport and earned a varsity letter during the academic year while also earning a 3.40 grade-point average or higher during the designated academic year.

"The student-athletes in the CCAA continue to impress us with their outstanding dedication to their personal educational goals, all while being committed to their teams, their schools and their community,” remarked CCAA commissioner Mitch Cox. “To earn this honor requires great time-management skills, a focus on the future, and a strong work ethic. Congratulations to all of the members of the CCAA All-Academic team!"

Cal State Monterey Bay leads the way win an impressive 96 honorees, followed closely by 92 from Cal State San Marcos and a tally of 91 Chico State student-athletes. Four Northern California schools follow, as Humboldt State added 75 names to the list followed by 72 for Cal State East Bay. Alongside Stanislaus State, Bay Area foes San Francisco State and Sonoma State each notched 71 with UC San Diego one behind at 70.

Seven institutions recorded an increase in the number of individual award recipients as Humboldt State’s 83 percent increase paced the movers and shakers. The Otters improved by 39 percent, with Stanislaus State upping their honorees by 34 percent. Cal State San Bernardino joins the Cougars and Wildcats with double-digit improvements, and the Pioneers’ stepped up three percentage points in 2018-19.

The CCAA and NCAA Division II supports the educational mission of college athletics by fostering a balanced and inclusive approach in which student-athletes learn and develop through their desired academic pursuits, in civic engagement with their communities and in athletics competition, creating a life in the balance.

This present demonstration of the academic achievements of each of the CCAA’s 13 conference constituents illustrates just one of the many ways student-athletes in the conference take advantage of the unique opportunity Division II provides to compete in the classroom, on the field, in their career, for their causes, and on their terms.
