Cal State San Bernardino Duo Claim Season's Final Weekly Awards

After securing a pivotal series split against the CCAA regular-season champions, Cal State San Bernardino duo Morgan Ratliff and Kendra O’Cull have earned the season’s final CCAA Player and Pitcher of the Week nods, for April 21-28.

The Coyotes took two on the home field of No.9 UC San Diego, splitting both days of the series in La Jolla. O’Cull, a sophomore from Apple Valley, stymied the Tritons during the series, throwing 11.1 innings and allowing no runs in three appearances. She recorded the win in both victorious efforts including a five-inning complete-game shutout in Thursday’s nightcap as the Cal State San Bernardino bats produced 10 quick runs.

Ratliff, a senior from Santa Clara, was a big reason for the Coyotes’ offensive successes. She hit an eye-popping .786 in the series with 11 hits in 14 at bats. Crossing the plate for four run, she also drove in two and stole a pair of bases. In Friday’s doubleheader, Ratliff was a perfect 6-for-6 from the plate also adding six putouts from the field and Cal State San Bernardino took the final game of the regular-season by a score of 5-1.

The series split helped the Coyotes slide into the field of the 2019 CCAA Softball Tournament, set to begin play from Seaside Thursday afternoon. Cal State San Bernardino will be playing as the No. 6 seed in the six-team double-elimination bracket.
