CALIFORNIA – Closing out his collegiate career in style, Chico State’s Kelley Sullivan headlines the men’s golf all-conference selections as the 2018-19 CCAA Player of the Year, announced today by the league office.

Hailing from Sammamish, Wash., the senior Sullivan leads the CCAA as the No 5 ranked individual in the country. He compiled five top 10 finishes this year, including a second place effort at the NCAA Regional preview this fall and a tie for third at the National preview at Cobb Course at Glade Springs in Daniels, W.V.

In the precursor to the upcoming regional competition, Sullivan led the Wildcats to the team title as he put together rounds of 67 and 69 at The Ledges at St. George en route to a runner-up finish. Along with a stellar senior campaign, Sullivan was the 2017 CCAA individual medalist and earned second place in last year’s conference championship individual standings.

Sullivan is joined on the All-CCAA first team by fellow upperclassmen for the Wildcats Josh McCollum as the duo has been pacing the region’s top team throughout the 2018-19 season.

Coach of the Year honors belong to Chico State’s Nick Green for the season straight season. In his third year at the helm of the men’s golf program, the Chico State alumnus is in his 16th year with Wildcats’ golf, either as a player or coach. This year, Green helped the Wildcats to the top seed in the NCAA West Regional in back-to-back years and Chico State currently sports a No. 5 national ranking by Golfstat.

This season’s Newcomer of the Year goes to Stanislaus State’s Kobie Lockwood. A junior playing in his first season for the Warriors, Lockwood was hot right out of the gate winning individual medalist honors the first time on the course. The Crescent City native landed in the top 10 on five occasions this season with a 72.56 stroke per round average.

Rounding out the individual awards, UC San Diego’s Elliot Bunyaviroch picks up the first Freshman of the Year award for the Tritons golf program. The native San Franciscan has been a solid performer all year, helping UC San Diego back to its first regional appearance since 2014. Bunyaviroch’s teammate Hayden Hui, a junior from Dublin, bumped up from honorable mention last season to garner All-CCAA first team distinction.

Three additional teams have a pair named first-team all-conference – CCAA champions Cal State Monterey Bay, runners-up Sonoma State and Cal State East Bay. The Otters went 1-2 individually in last week’s championships, and the duo of Matthew Hedges and Elis Svard were both rewarded for their performances in Seaside and for the duration of the season as the two men combined for 11 top 10 finishes on the course.

For Sonoma State, newcomer Blake Bourelle is joined by Devin Gregg as first-team selections. Gregg, a junior from San Anselmo, earned two individual titles this year and most recently finished in third at the CCAA Championships. He and Bourelle have helped the Seawolves to three team titles and the squad currently boasts 12th place national ranking heading into the postseason.

Completing the All-CCAA first team are Pioneers Will Barnett and Joey Herrera. Barnett, a senior from Melbourne, has moved up from an honorable mention selection as a junior after earning two individual tournament titles in his final year at Cal State East Bay. Transfer from Ventura College, Joey Herrera marks the third golfer competing in their first season in the CCAA to earn first-team acclaim. Barnett and Herrera have landed in the top 10 on seven occasions, with Herrera’s All-Tournament Team performance leading the Pioneers to third at the conference championships.

Showing the depth and breadth of the conference, everyone picked to the All-Conference first team will be competing at the upcoming 2019 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championships in the West/South Central Regional.
