HAYWARD, Calif.
– On the eve of the CCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament semifinal round, the league’s top performers on the court have earned recognition by the CCAA’s 13 head coaches. Headlining the 2018-19 awards slate is CCAA Player of the Year, UC San Diego’s Chris Hansen.

Hansen, a junior from Lafayette returning to play the postseason tournament in the Bay Area, has been a top offensive performer for the Tritons all season long. Helping UC San Diego to a shared regular-season championship, Hansen swishes an effective 55.8 percent of his shots from the floor to lead the conference. He’s also set the league benchmark in 3-point field goal percentage (.496), free throw percentage (86.7) and total rebounds (230), as Hansen hit the shooting trifecta as the most efficient shooter in the conference.

Hansen is joined on the All-CCAA first team by fellow UC San Diego players Christian Bayne and Tyrell Roberts. Roberts also picked up individual accolades as this season’s Newcomer of the Year. After redshirting a season ago, Roberts has become a key contributor to the Tritons’ success, where he swishes 2.25 3-pointers per game as one of a quartet of UC San Diego players to connect on at least two shots from distance each night. Along with averaging 13.5 points per game, the Sacramento native also adds 2.8 assists for the CCAA’s top scoring offense.

Sharing the regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the tournament for the second-straight year, a pair of Cal Poly Pomona players also grace the All-CCAA first team. William Christmas and Jordan Ogundiran are repeat first-teamers for the Broncos, also garnering honors in 2017-18 and the only men to have earned first-team selection last season. Juxtaposed by the high-scoring offense of the Tritons, Cal Poly Pomona relies on a stingy defense to defeat its opponents. Ogundiran leads the team with 60 steals on the season and with 42 for Christmas, the duo help anchor a Broncos D that is ranked in the top 10 nationally in not only steals, but also scoring defense and field goal percentage defense.

CCAA Coach of the Year Bryan Rooney has piloted Cal State East Bay to its first 20-win season since 1999-00, and its best-ever finish in the CCAA as the Pioneers claimed third place in Rooney’s second year at the helm. A pair of Cal State East Bay seniors – Juwan Anderson and Evan Wardlow – were selected to the CCAA’s first team, the first Pioneers players to ever earn that distinction.

Joining these seven as All-CCAA first-team selections are Humboldt State’s Justin Everett, Jiday Ugbaja from San Francisco State and Cal State Dominguez Hills player Colten Kresl. Kresl’s teammate Alex Garcia was honored as the 2018-19 Freshman of the Year, the first Toro to receive the award from the conference.

Along with an impressive 10-member first team, 19 more were recognized as second team and honorable mention performers. All told, 12 of the league’s 13 schools can boast at least one representative on the 2018-19 All-CCAA Men’s Basketball Team.
