Leading Cal State San Marcos to a dominant victory at the rain-shortened PLNU Sealion Invite, senior Bergen Benedict has been named CCAA Golfer of the Week for Jan. 30-Feb. 5.

Originally slated for 36 holes, heavy rains cut the event in half, with one round played over two days of competition. Benedict rolled four birdies in the round, tops in the field, to finish with a two-over 74, tying with host golfer Alli Kim of Point Loma at the top of the leaderboard.

As a team, the 15th-ranked Cougars eased to the top, with four golfers in the Top 10 of the 98-woman field and a combined team total of 303 (+15). Cal State San Marcos’ closest competition came from Victoria, who landed 13 strokes back.

In its second season as a CCAA-sanctioned sport, Cal State San Marcos golfers have now earned 11 of 21 possible weekly awards, with this being Benedict’s second honor.

Next up, the CCAA defending champions head to the Mikuni Sushi Shootout in Lincoln, hosted by Holy Names on Feb. 11-12.
