School Record for Hackson Brings Weekly Acclaim Feb 26, 2019 Etching her name in the Cal State San Marcos record books, Akayla Hackson has been picked as CCAA Player of the Week for Feb. 18-24. She shares the weekly honor with Humboldt State’s Tyra Turner. Hackson, a sophomore from Sunnyvale, averaged 22.5 points on 71 percent shooting, with 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in a pair of road victories, but Thursday was the record-setter. Hackson broke the Cougars’ single-game record for 3-pointers against San Francisco State, swishing 8-for-10 of her attempts from beyond the arc while compiling a career-best 26 points. She played an integral piece in Cal State San Marcos setting a single-game team record for 3-pointers as well, as the Cougars connected on 12 of their attempts from distance, shooting a season-best 57.4 percent from beyond the arc. While official seeding is still yet to be determined, Cal State San Marcos is assured of a spot in the 2018-19 CCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament with two games remaining on their regular-season schedule. First, the Cougars battle Cal State East Bay on Thursday before capping their conference slate against Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday.
