Etching her name in the Cal State San Marcos record books, Akayla Hackson has been picked as CCAA Player of the Week for Feb. 18-24. She shares the weekly honor with Humboldt State’s Tyra Turner.

Hackson, a sophomore from Sunnyvale, averaged 22.5 points on 71 percent shooting, with 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in a pair of road victories, but Thursday was the record-setter.

Hackson broke the Cougars’ single-game record for 3-pointers against San Francisco State, swishing 8-for-10 of her attempts from beyond the arc while compiling a career-best 26 points. She played an integral piece in Cal State San Marcos setting a single-game team record for 3-pointers as well, as the Cougars connected on 12 of their attempts from distance, shooting a season-best 57.4 percent from beyond the arc.

While official seeding is still yet to be determined, Cal State San Marcos is assured of a spot in the 2018-19 CCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament with two games remaining on their regular-season schedule. First, the Cougars battle Cal State East Bay on Thursday before capping their conference slate against Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday.
