UC San Diego's Bayne Nets Weekly Award Feb 26, 2019 After helping UC San Diego secure a postseason home game with a stellar week on the road, Christian Bayne has been selected as CCAA Player of the Week for Feb. 18-24. Bayne, a senior from Bakersfield, averaged a team-best 24.5 points and 2.5 steals while leading Tritons connecting on 73.9 percent of his field goals and an unblemished 100 percent of his attempts from the line. He also added 6.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game in a pair of solid performances. The Tritons won both contests in the Bay Area, beginning with weekend with a game-high 18 points at Sonoma State. He followed that up with another game-high at San Francisco State, going off for 31 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field against the Gators. Though he narrowly missed his career-best benchmark in scoring, Bayne matched a career-high tally of nine rebounds in the contest as the Tritons remained in the hunt for the CCAA regular-season title. UC San Diego caps the regular season at home with games against Cal State Monterey Bay and current first-place team Cal State East Bay. Though seeding is yet to be determined, the Tritons are guaranteed a home quarterfinal on Tuesday, with the winner advancing to the semifinal round in Hayward in the 2018-19 CCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament bracket.
