Alexia Thrower Claims CCAA Player of the Week
After a successful homestand for Humboldt State where the Lumberjacks defeated the league’s second-place squad, Alexia Thrower has earned her first career CCAA Player of the Week award, for Feb. 11-17.
Thrower, a junior who transfered to the Jacks from Grays Harbor College, averaged a double-double of 25.0 points and 12.5 rebounds for the week, as Humboldt State defeated Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino.
The Las Vegas native connected on 68.8 percent of her shots and narrowly missed a double-double finishing with 26 points and nine rebounds in Thursday’s win over the Broncos. She then notched her league-high tying 13th double-double of the year with 24 points and 16 rebounds in a three-point win against the Coyotes. She also swiped three steals and dished out a pair of assists in the weekend’s finale. Thrower played all 40 minutes in both games.
The Lumberjacks have won nine of their last 10, the only blemish coming against No. 2 ranked and undefeated UC San Diego. Currently third in the CCAA standings, Humboldt State is guaranteed a place in the 2018-19 CCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament bracket, now they’ll play to see if they can remain in hosting position for the first round of the action.
Next up, the Lumberjacks travel to Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday and Cal State LA Saturday in their final road trip of the regular season.
