Individual Medalist Breann Horn Tapped for CCAA Golfer of the Week Feb 13, 2019 Earning both team and individual medalist honors for Cal State San Marcos, freshman Breann Horn has earned her first CCAA Golfer of the Week award, for the span of Feb. 6-12. This marks the fourth-straight women’s golf honor of the season that has been earned by a Cougar golfer. Horn, playing in her first season at the collegiate ranks and hailing from Lakeside, went low for a career-best 68 on the second day of competition to catapult up the leaderboard nine spots to secure individual medalist honors at the Mikuni Sushi Shootout at Catta Verdera GC. She bested a trio that included GolfStat’s 12th-ranked individual Alli Kim of Point Loma and teammate Claire Hogle by one stroke to land at the top of the individual standings. Horn rolled in a tournament-topping eight birdies, including six under-par holes on the final day of play. Along with Horn and Hogle, the Cougars lineup was potent as CCAA defending champion Jaime Jacob finished in a tie for fifth with Savannah Magallan, and the Cal State San Marcos duo of Bergen Benedict and Sarah Garcia tying for eighth individually. Heading into the second and final round of the action, the Cougars owned a slim one-stroke lead over Academy of Art, but the final day belonged to Cal State San Marcos as the Cougars finished the round with a combined score of 9-under to outplay the Urban Knights by 29 strokes and ease to the team victory. Next up, the Cougars take to the course at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout, hosted by fellow CCAA school Cal State East Bay March 4-5 at Callippe Preserve GC in Pleasanton. 2018-19 CCAA Women’s Golfer of the Week Sept. 5-11 Linnea Karlsson, Cal State Monterey Bay Sept. 19-25 Sarah Garcia, Cal State San Marcos Sept. 26-Oct. 2 Carolin Chang, Cal State East Bay Oct. 3-9 Megan DeLeo, Sonoma State Oct. 17-23 Jaime Jacob, Cal State San Marcos Oct. 24-30 Jaime Jacob, Cal State San Marcos Jan. 30-Feb. 5 Bergen Benedict, Cal State San Marcos Feb. 6-12 Breann Horn, Cal State San Marcos
