Sharpshooting Earns Sydney Sharp CCAA Player of the Week

Locked in from distance and helping the No. 2 UC San Diego Tritons remain perfect on the season, junior Sydney Sharp has been tapped as CCAA Player of the Week for Feb. 4-10.

Sharp and the Tritons earned impressive road victories against the second-place team in the CCAA Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino on the weekend, with Sharp shooting dagger after dagger from beyond the arc. The North Tustin, Calif., native shot a sizzling 60 percent (12-of-20) from 3-point range in the two contests.

Sharp matched a career-high with eight 3-pointers and finished with 26 points and five assists in a 101-72 affair against the Broncos, the second 100-plus point game of the year for UC San Diego. She followed that up with 18 points on four 3-pointers in the 71-49 win over Coyotes, stretching the Tritons’ streak to 20 games.

For the season, Sharp is connecting from 3-point range at a clip of 39.0 percent, second in the CCAA. She leads the league in total 3-pointers made (55), and threes per game (2.75).

UC San Diego is back in RIMAC this week, hosting Cal State Dominguez Hills on Valentine’s Day, followed by a date with Cal State LA on Saturday. Both games are slated for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
