After a powerful week on the court for Alexis Cardoza, the Cal State San Bernardino junior has earned her third CCAA Player of the Week award in 2019, this time for the week of Oct. 28-Nov. 3.

The Coyotes have run up 21 wins on the season and held the top spot in NCAA Division II for the last eight weeks due in no small part to the play of reigning CCAA Player of the Year Cardoza. This week, the Chino Hills native compiled 37 kills on just five errors while hitting .464. She also added two double-doubles with 20 digs, five assists and five blocks to her weekly tally.

Facing perhaps their toughest test remaining in the regular season, Cardoza swung her way to 26 kills on .478 hitting and added 10 digs and three blocks at the home of No. 24 Cal State LA in Friday’s four-set win. She followed that up with 11 kills and one error to help Cal State San Bernardino dispatch Cal State Dominguez Hills in three. That was the 15th sweep of the season for the Coyotes, who have dropped just six sets on the year.

Cardoza leads the nation and is second in NCAA Division II in both kills per set (4.59) and points per set (5.22), narrowly following Julia Holden of Clarion by less than a tenth of a point in both categories.

This week’s recognition marks the third of the season, and fifth of her career, for the outside hitter Cardoza.

Hosts of the 2019 CCAA Volleyball Tournament, Cal State San Bernardino has already locked up a spot in the brackets, with their seed yet to be determined with two weeks remaining in the regular season. The Coyotes close out on their home court with a trio of contests, starting with a singular match against Cal State Monterey Bay on this week’s docket. That contest is slated for Friday at 7 p.m. from Coussoulis Arena. Dating back to 2001, the Coyotes have won all 30 games contested in the head-to-head series.
