Humboldt State senior Alexia Thrower averaged a double-double to help her team to a 2-0 start in league play in route to CCAA Player of the Week for Nov. 18-24.
Hailing from Las Vegas, the guard/forward paced the Jacks to home victories over Sonoma State and Cal State LA, going off to account for 41 percent of the Humboldt State offensive output over the weekend playing all 80 minutes.
Thrower scored a season-high 33 points on 71 percent shooting and grabbed eight rebounds in Humboldt State's 64-58 win over Sonoma State Thursday. Nine-of-10 from the line in the game, she connected on four free throws in the final seconds to seal the win.
She then came back and recorded her first double-double of the season in the Jacks’ come-from-behind 72-70 win over Cal State LA Saturday. Against the Golden Eagles, Thrower recorded 23 points and 15 rebounds in the victorious effort to run the Jacks to a 4-1 record in the early-goings of the season. This marks the first 2-0 start to CCAA play since the 2014-15 season, when Humboldt State posted a 23-6 overall record en route to a bid to the NCAA West Region field.
A two-time award winner in 2018-19, this is Thrower’s third career weekly distinction from the conference.
The Jacks play host over the holiday, in a four-team Thanksgiving Classic beginning Friday. Humboldt State takes on Notre Dame de Namur Friday and Dominican Saturday. Fellow CCAA squad Cal State East Bay plays those two teams in reverse order in each day’s opening game.
