Christian Oshita came up big in keeping No. 4 UC San Diego perfect on the season with a trio of convincing wins, and earned his third career CCAA Player of the Week distinction for Nov. 18-24.

The redshirt senior out of Torrance averaged 21.0 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, highlighted by a 34-point outburst Sunday at Cal State San Bernardino.

Oshita’s week began with a double-double of 23 points and a career-high-tying 15 rebounds in a resounding 88-63 home defeat of 24th-ranked 2018-19 PacWest and West Region champion and national runner-up Point Loma. Both point and rebound totals led all players, as he went 9-for-14 from the floor, including 5-for-7 from deep.

In Sunday’s 86-77 victory over the Coyotes, Oshita’s game-high 34 points came off of 10-of-15 shooting from the field, 6-of-9 from beyond the arc and 8-of-9 from the free throw stripe, all season highs for makes and attempts, as were his two steals.

During an 81-54 home romp against another city rival, Cal State San Marcos, in both teams’ CCAA opener on Thursday night, Oshita was called upon only to provide six points. The Tritons’ average margin of victory last week was 20.3 points.

Oshita shot at a 60 percent clip for the week at 21-for-35 from the field, including 12-of-19 (.632) from three-point range, as well as 9-of-11 (.818) from the line. He paces the CCAA with his 54.3 percent (19-35) three-point shooting on the year.

Oshita was previously the CCAA Player of the Week on Jan. 2, 2018, and Nov. 20, 2018. The latter was within the first four games of the 2018-19 season, after which he was shut down for a medical redshirt. It was garnered largely through a career-high 35 points against Saint Martin’s, which Oshita nearly matched Sunday.

Off to a 6-0 start, UC San Diego goes up to the Bay Area this week to participate in the NDNU Thanksgiving Classic in Belmont. The Tritons will take on Holy Names at 5 p.m. on Friday and host Notre Dame de Namur at 7 p.m. on Saturday night.
