After starting the season with a pair of top-notch performances, Sonoma State senior Ugochi Anudokem has earned the first CCAA Player of the Week award of the season, for Nov. 4-10.
The forward from San Jose was impressive over the weekend’s two games played as part of a CCAA/PacWest Challenge event in Belmont. First, Anudokem was an efficient 9-for-11 from the floor to score 23 points in 29 minutes against the hosts, Dominican. She added 14 rebounds, three steals and a pair of blocks and assists as the Seawolves earned a 69-60 victory over the Penguins.
Then on Saturday, Anudokem picked up her second double-double of the weekend with a 15-point, 14-rebound performance against Notre Dame de Namur as Sonoma State recorded a 58-47 decision over the Argonauts. All told, Anudokem posted averages of 19 points and 14 rebounds per game shooting at a 68 percent clip.
This is the third career weekly honor from the conference for Anudokem, as she’s earned acclaim once in each of the past two seasons.
This is the first 2-0 start to the season for the squad since 2016-17, when Sonoma State took home victories against the same two teams as they opened the year in Belmont. That season, the Seawolves went on to secure a CCAA Tournament bid after posting their best record in nearly a decade.
Next, Sonoma State plays host for the CCAA/GNAC Challenge as Western Oregon and Concordia (Ore.) join Chico State for a four-team tournament in Rohnert Park. The Seawolves are slated to take on the Wolves Friday, with Sonoma State meeting up with the Cavaliers Saturday. Both contests are slated for 2 p.m. tips with the Wildcats playing in the noon slot each day.
