Chris Hansen led No. 5 UC San Diego to a pair of victories in the Pacific Northwest and nabbed the new season’s first CCAA Player of the Week award for Nov. 4-10.

Hansen, the 2018-19 CCAA Most Valuable Player and a Division II All-American, was named the MVP of the season-opening GNAC/CCAA Conference Challenge, hosted by Western Washington in Bellingham, Wash. The redshirt senior center out of Lafayette averaged 23.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists on the weekend.

Hansen first went for game highs of 21 points, nine rebounds and six assists in just 22:32 during a 95-70 romp over Simon Fraser on Friday night. He shot 8-of-17 from the floor, including five three-pointers on 11 attempts. Hansen also led all players in field goals made (tied), field goals attempted, three-pointers made, three-pointers attempted, offensive boards (four) and defensive rebounds (five).

On Saturday night against the host Vikings, Hansen posted the first double-double of his final college campaign, collecting game highs again of 25 points and 13 boards in a 76-69 triumph. He connected on 9-of-16 from the field and 3-of-8 from beyond the arc, making all four free throws and adding a pair of assists in 36 minutes on the court.

UC San Diego was +48 with Hansen on the court inside Carver Gym. He made 51.5 percent of his shots. Saturday marked his 23rd collegiate double-double, with the 11 three-point attempts and six assists both career highs.

Hansen is now a four-time CCAA Player of the Week as a Triton, and in fact also picked up the season’s first award last year after decisions over the same two teams during the CCAA/GNAC Challenge in La Jolla.

UC San Diego (3-0) remained in the state of Washington and knocked off Saint Martin’s Monday night in Lacey, 88-55. The Tritons return to RIMAC next week, hosting a trio of contests starting with Point Loma next Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m., before opening their CCAA slate Thursday.
