Frosh Burton Nabs CCAA Runner of the Week

For the first time this season, Shane Burton led the pack for Humboldt State en route to capturing CCAA Runner of the Week for Sept. 30-Oct. 6.
The freshman from Rocklin covered the 8,000-meter distance at the Charles Bowles Invitational in 25:36.1 to land in 21st on the leaderboard. Burton was less than a minute back from the race winner in leading the Humboldt State to a top 5 finish.
The Lumberjacks took fifth in the team standings at the event hosted by WIllamette in Salem, Ore. With 122 points, Humboldt State finished behind NCAA Division I squads Portland, Portland State, Eastern Washington, and just eight points back from fellow DII competitor Embry-Riddle.
The Jacks have the weekend off before one final tune-up heading into the
2019 CCAA Cross Country Championships, hosted by Humboldt State at Baywood G&CC in Arcata. The team will next take to the course Oct. 19 at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale.
