After completing a comeback to leap to the top of the leaderboard, Cal State Monterey Bay sophomore Isabel Carpenter has been named CCAA Golfer of the Week for Oct. 23-30.

Carpenter fired a 6-over 76 in the first round of the Dennis Rose Invitational at the Waikoloa Beach Course on the Big Island to land in 13th. After the second round of play, the San Luis Obispo native had jumped to second, firing a 2-under 68 as she made her move. In a rare opportunity to play a 54-hole tournament, Carpenter made the most of it, pushing even with Cammie Decker of Concordia (Ore.) to share medalist honors with a 4-over 214 tally at the three-day event.

The win was the first for Carpenter as a collegian and the first by an Otter since current senior Linnea Karlsson took the title at the California Bays Tournament on Sept. 26, 2017.

With just two playing as individuals, Cal State Monterey Bay did not record a team score in the event which was won by the Cavaliers, and saw Sonoma State finish as team runners-up.

This marks the conclusion of the fall slate for the Otters, and in fact all six CCAA women’s golf teams, who will return to the course after a break for winter. Cal State Monterey is next in action at the Sea Lion Invitational, hosted by Point Loma in San Diego on Feb. 3-4, 2020.
