Santos Selected as CCAA Player of the Week

After helping Cal State LA to a pair of four-set road wins over the weekend, junior Karla Santos has been named CCAA Player of the Week for Oct. 21-27.
Santos tallied 28 kills, 23 digs and four blocks for 30 points on the road, averaging 3.5 kills per set to lead the team and extend their winning streak to six matches.
Both victorious efforts came over North foes near the top of the divisional table, as the Golden Eagles first downed Stanislaus State friday as the Manati, Puerto Rico native added nine kills and 10 digs against the North-leading Warriors. The highlight of the weekend for Santos came against Chico State as she compiled 19 kills on .405 hitting to go along with 13 digs to lead the rally and win over the Wildcats.
Santos currently sits in the CCAA top 10 in both kills per set (2.97) and points per set (3.39) among student-athletes meeting a 66.7% matches played threshold. This is Santos’ first honor of the 2019 campaign and fourth of her career after twice being named in her freshman season, and once in 2018.
Next up for the Golden Eagles is one of the toughest tests in all of NCAA Division II in a top 25 clash. No. 24 Cal State LA hosts No. 1 Cal State San Bernardino Friday at 7 p.m., followed by a Saturday evening match against Cal Poly Pomona. The Coyotes have won 13 of the last 14 in the series against the Golden Eagles, and currently sport a perfect 19-0 record on the year. Cal State LA’s only blemish on their CCAA record came at the hands of Cal State San Bernardino on Oct. 5.
