Sparrer Takes Weekly Honors After First Collegiate Title Oct 23, 2019 Complete list of weekly winners >>> After earning his first collegiate tournament title, Stanislaus State’s Brad Sparrer has been tabbed as the CCAA Golfer of the Week for Oct. 16-22. Sparrer, a junior from Hollister, fired off a three-round tally of 70-69-71–210 (-1) at the Otter Invitational, hosted by Cal State San Marcos at Bayonet and Black Horse. He overtook runner-up Felipe Alvarez after some mid-round heroics on Tuesday after finding the bottom of the cup in one stroke on the par-3 17th, the hardest par 3 on the Bayonet course. Sparrer’s hole in one on 17 came on his eighth hole of the day and propelled him to remain under par in the round and leapfrog Alvarez, who recorded five bogeys in the final 18 of the event. His junior campaign is shaping up to be a good one. Sparrer’s first career Top 10 finish came in the Warriors’ previous outing, as he finished ninth at the Western Washington Invitational on Sept. 23-24. He followed that up with his first time atop the collegiate leaderboard, marking the first time a Stanislaus State golfer has won a tournament since Kobie Lockwood’s win last fall at the Saint Martin’s Invite. As a team, the Warriors finished fifth, moving up two spots during Tuesday’s final round. Barry took the honors by 14 strokes with CCAA squads Cal State San Marcos and Cal State Monterey Bay tying for second as the pair was followed by Cal State East Bay and Stanislaus State to round out the top five. The Warriors wrap up their fall slate next week as Stanislaus State travels to Hawaii to compete in the Dennis Rose Invitational at Waikoloa Oct. 28-30.
