Two more clean sheets in another pair of home victories for No. 2 UC San Diego has earned redshirt senior Triton goalkeeper Angelica Ramos CCAA Player of the Week acclaim for Oct. 14-20.

The product of nearby San Clemente and fourth-year transfer from Saddleback College had two saves in Friday night’s 1-0 defeat of rival Chico State in front of 456 spectators on Homecoming. Ramos added two more stops in Sunday afternoon’s 3-0 victory over Stanislaus State, which had won five of six coming in.

Ramos totaled four saves over her 180 shutout minutes. She faced just 11 shots in all, and is fourth nationally with her .303 goals-against average. As a team, UC San Diego leads the country with its .846 shutout percentage, through 11 clean sheets over 13 matches played. Ramos has played all 1,190 minutes this year.

Ramos is the first two-time recipient of the league’s weekly honor in 2019, having picked up the season’s first back on Sept. 10. She is a three-time selection for her Triton career, with an initial one on Oct. 10, 2017, in her second year in the program and first as the starter. In fact, the only other CCAA student-athletes with three such distinctions since the start of the 2016 campaign, are former teammates Katie O’Laughlin and Mary Reilly. Ramos also has two All-CCAA honorable mentions to her tally.

With a third straight perfect six-point week at home, UC San Diego took over sole possession of first place in the league table, as Sonoma State was idle. The Tritons sit four points clear of the Seawolves, though with two more league matches played.

One of seven unbeatens left in Division II women’s soccer, UC San Diego wraps up its regular-season home schedule this Wednesday evening with a city derby against Cal State San Marcos at 4:30 p.m. The Tritons then travel north to face Sonoma State in a top-of-the-table clash in Rohnert Park on Friday at 12:30 p.m.
