UC San Diego's Rieble Hits Her Way to Conference, National Acclaim
Complete list of weekly winners >>>
Jessica Rieble is the CCAA Player of the Week for the second time this season, for Oct. 14-20, after leading UC San Diego to a pair of home wins.
Along with garnering conference acclaim, the senior middle blocker from Pleasanton was tabbed as SportsImports/AVCA NCAA Division II Player of the Week for her efforts as well.
The senior middle blocker from Pleasanton directed the Tritons to a sweep over Chico State on Friday night, and 3-1 decision over Stanislaus State on Saturday. She finished the two matches with weekly averages of .591 hitting with 4.1 kills per set, 1.3 blocks per set and 4.9 points per set, all team highs.
In front of a season-high RIMAC Arena crowd of 834 on UC San Diego Homecoming, Rieble collected career bests of 19 kills and 23 points (tied) against Stanislaus State, getting her hands to six blocks and attacking at a .692 rate, the highest by a Triton in 2019. She led all players in kills, points, hitting, solo blocks (two) and total blocks.
Friday versus the Wildcats, Rieble provided 10 kills, three blocks and a .444 hitting clip. As a result of the past weekend, her season percentage increased from .407 to .433, which now ranks her third nationally in Division II and second in the CCAA.
Rieble makes a trio of CCAA student-athletes who each have a pair of weekly league distinctions thus far in 2019, joining fellow South Division standouts Alexis Cardoza of Cal State San Bernardino and Daisy Crenshaw of Cal State LA. San Francisco State setter Payton Jensen is the only other honoree. Rieble was previously chosen on Sept. 17 after the Tritons’ perfect run through the West Region Showcase at home.
UC San Diego (13-6), still tied for third place in the South with city rival Cal State San Marcos at 7-4 apiece in CCAA play, takes to the road this week, heading all the way north to Sonoma State on Thursday night and Humboldt State on Saturday.
