Swangler Leads Wildcats to Team Success En Route to Individual Honors

Talia Swangler’s top-10 finish aided Chico State to a team win at the 46th annual Western Washington Classic and led to her first career CCAA Runner of the Week recognition for Oct. 7-13.
The senior product of Paradise and second-year Wildcat out of Butte College placed seventh out of 122 runners by timing 22:09.7 in the 6,000-meter race Saturday at the Sudden Valley Golf Course in Bellingham, Wash. Chico State was first out of 11 squads, outpointing host WWU, 51-88.
The placement was Swangler’s highest of 2019 and first in the top 10. She has been the Wildcats’ top finisher in all three of their competitions to date. This was Chico State’s first team triumph of the current campaign.
Swangler is a first-time CCAA Runner of the Week, and the first Chico State women’s cross country student-athlete to be so honored this fall.
Chico State, ranked No. 4 nationally in Division II and No. 1 in the West Region, is now done with its regular season. The Wildcats have less than two weeks to prepare for the
2019 CCAA Championships at Baywood Golf & Country Club in Arcata on Saturday, Oct. 26. Their women have won the last 11 titles, and 15 of the last 17.
