Cal State LA middle blocker Cal State LA excelled again at the net to become a two-time 2019 CCAA Player of the Week selection, now for Oct. 7-13.
A redshirt junior and Los Angeles native, Crenshaw put down 19 kills across 27 total attacks, without a single error (.704), in straight-set sweeps over UC San Diego and Cal State Dominguez Hills. She had eight kills on 13 swings (.615), with four block assists, at home against the Tritons on Tuesday night. Crenshaw then added 11 kills on 14 attempts for a career-best .786 hitting percentage, alongside a match-high five total blocks and a dig, in Saturday’s road meeting with the crosstown foes from Carson. That rate moves her up to No. 2 in the program’s single-match record book.
Over Cal State LA’s two victories and seven sets against the Toros this year, Crenshaw provided 24 kills on 31 attacks with no errors for a .774 rate. Her previous single-match best of a .765 rate came in the earlier meeting back on Sept. 21, after which she earned her initial CCAA Player of the Week honor. Four times now in 2019, Crenshaw has finished with at least 13 attempts without committing a hitting error, all over the past seven contests.
Crenshaw ranks fourth nationally in Division II and second in both the West Region and CCAA with her .435 attack percentage for the year. She is also 21st in blocks per set (1.24) and 42nd in total blocks (68).
Cal State LA (10-5, 6-1 CCAA), still second behind top-ranked Cal State San Bernardino in the CCAA South Division, is in home action this weekend, welcoming Humboldt State on Friday and Sonoma State on Saturday into University Gym.
