Two Game-Winners Net Golden Eagle Rookie Sanchez Weekly Honors
The first two goals of Lauren Sanchez’s college career gave Cal State LA a pair of home wins to begin league play, and earned the freshman midfielder CCAA Player of the Week selection for Sept. 23-29.
A product of West Covina, Sanchez generated the decider in a 2-1 victory over 17th-ranked and previously-unbeaten Stanislaus State on Friday night. She dribbled into the penalty area and fired her shot inside the far post in the 31st minute to open her collegiate scoring account.
Sanchez then registered the lone score of Sunday’s 1-0 shutout over Chico State, heading in a cross by fellow substitute Irma Pinzon in the 66th minute. She totaled two shots in each contest, with three on goal, coming off the bench in both.
Sanchez shares the top spot on the Cal State LA goals chart with two teammates.
Off to a 2-0 start to CCAA play, Cal State LA is idle in the week ahead. The Golden Eagles return to action at crosstown rival Cal State Dominguez Hills on Wednesday, Oct. 9, before welcoming Sonoma State into University Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 13.
