Berti Claims CCAA Runner of the Week
Leading Chico State to a strong finish in a hotly-contested field, Wildcat sophomore Trad Berti has been named CCAA Runner of the Week for Sept. 23-20.
The Paso Robles native finished third out of 282 runners and 35 teams at the Capital Cross Challenge at Haggin Oaks, GC, the host site of the 2019 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships.
Berti crossed the line in 24:10.0, just six seconds behind race winner Jake Ritter of NCAA Division I Cal Poly, and five seconds ahead of his nearest CCAA competitor, teammate Matthew Herrera. The Wildcats had their three-year Capital Cross team winning streak snapped in a tight 51-67 loss to Cal Poly, but easily outpaced third-place UC San Diego, which finished with 176 points.
Focusing their energy on the postseason, No. 3-ranked Chico State next competes on Oct. 12, at the WWU Classic in Bellingham, Wash. This will serve as their final race before the 2019 CCAA Cross Country Championships are contested in Arcata on Oct. 26.

Aren Johnson, UC San Diego
