Coyote Andres Villa Nabs CCAA Player of the Week
After putting together a weekend which included a victorious effort against No. 8 Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State San Bernardino’s Andres Villa has been tapped as CCAA Player of the Week for Dec. 31-Jan. 6.
Villa averaged 16.5 points on 67 percent shooting to go along with 8.5 rebounds to pace the Coyotes in wins over Chico State and Cal Poly Pomona as the squad has won four of their last five contests. Villa’s selection marks the first Coyote to receive weekly honors in nearly two years (Everett Turner; Jan. 16-22, 2017).
The junior forward from Deming, N.M., started the week with a 14-point, six-rebound effort in Cal State San Bernardino’s 88-72 win over Chico State and capped the week with a team-leading 19 points to go along with 11 rebounds - five offensive - as the Coyotes upended the Broncos, 70-67. Villa was a fiery 80 percent from the field in Saturday’s win against Cal Poly Pomona, connecting on 8-of-10 attempts in the contest.
Cal State San Bernardino caps a five-game homestand this weekend. The Coyotes play host to two from the north as Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay head to Coussoulis Arena for games Thursday at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday at 3 p.m.
