312 Student-Athletes Make the Grade for CCAA Fall All-Academic Honors

CALIFORNIA – More than 300 men and women who compete in the fall sports of men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball across the CCAA been honored for their work in the classroom as members of the 2018 CCAA Fall All-Academic Team.
The seasonal academic awards which were instituted in 2014, showcase individuals who are a sophomore in athletic standing or higher who maintain at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average while competing in a Conference-sponsored sport. For the fall, a tally of 312 student-athletes made the grade from across the CCAA’s 13 member institutions.
Of the 312 honorees, nearly half are making a repeat appearance with 146 individuals making at least their second Fall All-Academic team. Four upperclassmen women have earned distinction in each year of eligibility: Alexandra Bollier (Cal Poly Pomona; volleyball), Lisa Flora (Cal State San Marcos; women’s cross country), Kalin Tomlinson (Cal Poly Pomona; women’s soccer), and Deja Thompson (Cal State East Bay; volleyball).
74 of the 312, or 23.9 percent, maintain a cumulative gpa of at least 3.80 or better. Seven women and one man representing six different institutions sport an unblemished 4.0 in their respective studies: Bailey Cockrill (Cal State San Marcos; women’s soccer), Samuel Croucher (Cal State LA; men’s soccer), Arianna Fuentes (Cal State San Bernardino; women’s cross country), McKenna Gleason (Cal State LA; women’s soccer), Cessair McKinney (Humboldt State; women's cross country), Sabine Postma (Humboldt State; women’s soccer), Paige Rathbun (Sonoma State; women’s cross country), and Megan Stavish (Stanislaus State; women’s soccer).
Sport-by-sport, a total of 110 women’s soccer student-athletes earned distinction, followed by 70 volleyball players. Men’s soccer saw 69 honorees, followed by 46 women’s cross country competitors and 17 from men’s cross country.
Cal State Monterey Bay led all fall honorees with 29 student-athletes dotting the list, followed closely behind by Cal Poly Pomona (28) and the trio of Humboldt State, Sonoma State and Stanislaus State right behind at 27.
Next is the grouping of Cal State East Bay (26), Cal State San Marcos (25), San Francisco State (24) and UC San Diego (23). Then, Cal State San Bernardino (22), Cal State Dominguez Hills (20), Cal State LA (18), and Chico State (16) round out the school tallies.
The CCAA recognizes individuals academically per season – fall, winter and spring – for all CCAA sponsored sports. In order to earn CCAA All-Academic team honors, a student-athlete must be of sophomore athletic standing or higher, and own a 3.3 cumulative GPA or better while competing in a Conference-sponsored sport in that season.
The CCAA Fall All-Academic Team consists of eligible student-athletes who compete in the sports of men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball. The Winter All-Academic Team will honor men’s and women’s basketball players, with the Spring All-Academic Team consisting of student-athletes from men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s track and field, softball and baseball.
