STOCKTON, Calif. – The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) individual award winners and All-CCAA squads have been announced as the 2018 CCAA Softball Championship gets underway today from Bill Simoni Field on the campus of the University of the Pacific.

Headlined by Most Valuable Player and Pitcher duo of UC San Diego’s Kelsi Maday and Haley Gilham of Chico State, 11 of the 15-member All-CCAA first team are competing this weekend vying for the conference title and an automatic bid into the NCAA Championship field.

A Top 25 finalist for NFCA Player of the Year, Gilham has twirled her way to her second-consecutive CCAA Pitcher of the Year honor. The senior from Norco has tossed a NCAA-best 13 shutouts for the No. 1 seed Wildcats, boasting a league-best 1.15 ERA and 23 wins on the season. The 2015 CCAA Freshman of the Year, Gilham has struck out 148 batters in her final collegiate season in the circle and holds opponents to an impressively low .173 batting average.

Gilham is joined on the All-CCAA first team by four fellow Wildcats: second baseman Karli Skowrup, shortstop Wendy Cardinali and outfielders Ari Marsh and Kristin Worley. Marsh and Worley are making repeat appearances on the first team, as Chico State’s five selections are the most by any team.

Angel Shamblin, head coach of the No. 2 ranked Wildcats has picked up her first CCAA Coach of the Year plaque after guiding Chico State to a program-record 22-game winning streak to close out the regular season and an impressive 47-3 record on the year.

Maday, a senior outfielder from Napa, helped lead the Tritons to the No. 2 seed in the CCAA brackets. She enters the postseason batting .374, leads the UC San Diego squad in stolen bases (28) and boast a 1.000 fielding percentage. Along with Player of the Year honors, this is Maday’s third-straight CCAA first-team nod. She is joined on the All-CCAA squad by third baseman Maddy Lewis and a pair of phenom freshmen in Robyn Wampler and Sherriah Harrington.

Hailing from Berkeley, Wampler gets the nod as the conference Freshman of the Year. A dynamic pitcher for the Tritons, Wamper leads the league in multiple categories including strikeouts (169) and saves (5) and is tied with Gilham for wins (23). Wampler closed the regular season on a tear, earning three straight CCAA Pitcher of the Week awards.

After spending one season at William Penn (Iowa), Michelle Castro decided to return to Northern California and has become a staple in the San Francisco State lineup. The sophomore utility player from Acampo averaged .316 batting with a team-best 41 runs and 17 doubles to go along with a CCAA-high 45 stolen bases en route to Newcomer of the Year and first-team All-CCAA recognition.

Joining the individual award winners on the All-CCAA first team include repeat honorees Jessica Brown (catcher, Cal State San Bernardino) and last year’s Freshman of the Year Hayley Fein (utility/pitcher, Cal State Monterey Bay). Coyote outfielder Morgan Ratliff, Sonoma State first baseman Karly Macadangdang and Humboldt State outfielder Winona Vigil round out the first-team selections, as voted on by the league’s head coaches.
