Gators Duo Caps Regular Season with Weekly Acclaim

SAN RAMON, Calif. — Gator duo Timarya Baynard and Destiny Mack-Talalemotu capped the regular season with provisional qualifying marks and earned the regular season’s final California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors for April 23-29.

Next, all 13 institutions from across the league send squads to the 2018 CCAA Track & Field Championships. Hosted by Stanislaus State at Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium, the three-day competition for the CCAA crown begins Thursday.

CCAA Womens’ Track Athlete of the Week
Timarya Baynard took first place in the 200 meters at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational, clocking in at 24.44 for a provisional qualifying mark. The sophomore from San Jose also helped the Gators to a victory in the 4x100 and the the third-fastest time in the country with a 45.95, another provisional qualifying time and .01 seconds off the program record.

CCAA Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Destiny Mack-Talalemotu recorded three NCAA provisional qualifying distances over the weekend at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational. The junior from Long Beach took first place overall in the shot put with a throw 14.72 meters. She added a fifth-place result in the discus with a mark of 48.72 m, and earned sixth in the hammer throw, recording a distance of 55.81 m.
