Fisher, Bowen Earn CCAA Track and Field Athletes of the Week

SAN RAMON, Calif. — Chico State’s Connor Fisher and Matt Bowen of UC San Diego have been named California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Track and Field Athletes of the Week for April 16-23.
 
CCAA Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Chico State’s Connor Fisher turned in the top time in the CCAA in the men’s 5,000 meters during the 2018 season, finishing in 14:06.68 at the Mt. SAC Relays. The time is good for an NCAA provisional qualifying mark for the senior from Lake Isabella, who was running the 5,000 for the first time of the year. Fisher finished 10th in a field of 23 Division I and elite club athletes.

Wildcat athletes own the top five marks in the conference in the event on the year, as Fisher is joined by Jack Johnson, Eddie King, Jason Intravaia and Arturo Arevalo as 5K provisional qualifiers.

2018 CCAA Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
UC San Diego junior Matt Bowen put his name in the school record books with the program’s second-best all-time mark in the triple jump, recording a leap of 51-feet, 2.75-inches at the Bryan Clay Invitational over the weekend. A native of Fresno, Calif., Bowen’s mark stands as an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Championships, as he placed fifth overall out of 60 entrants.
