SAN RAMON, Calif. — A pair of seniors and newcomers to the conference, UC San Diego’s Justin Beck and Joe Ryan of Stanislaus State have been selected as California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for April 16-23.

CCAA Baseball Player of the Week
Justin Beck was the unquestioned leader of an offensive juggernaut as UC San Diego swept a second straight series, over Cal State San Bernardino, to move within a game of first-place Cal State Monterey Bay. The senior transfer from San Jose State hit .600 (9-for-15) with 10 runs, nine hits, three doubles, three home runs, 13 RBI and 21 total bases, all team highs. He slugged 1.400 with a .632 on-base percentage, and also fielded all 20 of his defensive chances cleanly over four starts at second base.

Highlights on the week included three multi-hit games on the weekend, and a two homerun effort in Saturday’s doubleheader nightcap at San Bernardino.

Riding an eight-game winning streak and climbing the CCAA standings, the Tritons take on Cal State LA in the penultimate weekend of the regular season. First pitch from La Jolla is slated for 6 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday, and the Golden Eagles will host the final two contests of the weekend

CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week
In a gritty and dominate performance against one of the top offensive teams in the league, Joe Ryan again won a pitching duel in Friday's 2-0 win over Cal Poly Pomona en route to his fifth conference weekly award of the season.

Ryan, a senior from San Anslemo, threw 142 pitches for a two-hit complete game shutout and struck out eight batters improving to 7-1 on the season, a CCAA best. He lowered his ERA to 1.58, also the best in the conference. After issuing a leadoff walk in the ninth, he talked his way into staying in the game and promptly struck out the side to end the game. Ryan holds the No. 2 spot in NCAA Division II in strikeouts with 108.

On the road for the remainder of the regular season, Stanislaus State heads to Cal State Dominguez Hills this weekend. First pitch between the Warriors and Toros is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m.
